In the aftermath of Chicago’s mayoral and aldermanic runoff elections, Andy Shaw, BGA President and CEO, spoke with WGN-TV and FOX 32 Chicago about the elections’ implications for the April general election, which will showcase a race between incumbent mayor Rahm Emanuel and challenger Jesus “Chuy” Garcia, a Cook County commissioner.
Shaw emphasized that the upcoming mayoral contest will result in a healthy discussion of “good government” issues facing the entire city including: municipal finances and taxes, underfunded public pensions, crime, ethics and education.
Shaw also addressed the issue of low voter turnout in the recent runoff and how that may impact the April election.
