BGA President and CEO Andy Shaw sits down with WBBM Newsradio’s Craig Dellimore for “At Issue” to discuss challenges Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel faces from the police scandal.

Shaw says the two big controversies the mayor faced in his first term, a teacher’s strike and public school closings, pale in comparison to what he’s up against now: an apparent cover-up of a police shooting that has had fallout throughout City Hall.

The BGA and other news organizations have long documented problems within the Chicago Police Department, including huge payouts for police-related settlements and the high number of fatal shootings by local police.

Dellimore and Shaw also touch on the importance of a strong inspector general in City Council (link “importance of strong inspector general” to Andy’s column) and the BGA’s push for “smart streamlining—eliminating unnecessary units of Illinois government.

Listeners can also hear Shaw each week on WBBM Wednesdays at 10:20 and Fridays at 1:20.
