With deep gratitude the BGA announces the departure of Program Director Robert Reed and Director of Investigations Robert Herguth. Since 2010, Reed and Herguth played important leadership roles in the rebuilding of the BGA. Reed managed the expansion of the BGA’s programming units, including Investigations, Policy and Civic Engagement. Herguth led the Investigative Unit and oversaw collaborative efforts with media partners.

“As I leave the BGA, I look back at six years of satisfying and rewarding work. We’ve built a strong investigative team, an influential policy unit, and an engaging civic education program. We’ve made tremendous progress fulfilling the BGA’s watchdog mission,” said Reed.

Under Reed and Herguth’s leadership, the BGA published more than 550 investigations which prompted 130 reforms and resulted in the savings of more than $50 million in tax dollars. Their work also earned 35 local and national journalism awards.

“I’m proud of the hundreds of investigations we did to root out corruption and mismanagement in government. These stories made a real impact, prompting reforms and changes in the way government works,” said Herguth.

The BGA has great appreciation for the talent, dedication and hard work they brought to the organization.

“Reed and Herguth are outstanding journalists who contributed so much to the BGA’s watchdog work over the past six years. I wish them the best in their future endeavors,” said BGA President & CEO Andy Shaw.
