The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Awards for Investigative Reporting is one of the most anticipated events on the BGA’s calendar. Regretfully, in light of the COVID-19 outbreak, this year’s awards ceremony will be rescheduled for mid-July. We look forward to bringing together outstanding journalists and those who appreciate their work at that time. Stay tuned for details.

The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation Awards for Investigative Reporting highlight the importance of investigative journalism in advancing the principles of democracy, especially in today’s climate of crisis in the journalism community.

For journalists reporting on Illinois, winning a prestigious Driehaus Investigative Award can be career-defining. The Better Government Association and the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation formed this winning partnership in 2004. The Foundation not only underwrites the awards but has been instrumental in assisting the BGA to create a formal jury prize structure that includes a rotating panel of journalists and media educators to review and vote on the winning investigations.

This year’s event will take place:

Monday, May 18, 2020 mid-July (Stay tuned for details!)
City Winery
1200 W Randolph St
Chicago, IL 60607

5:30 Cocktails

7:15 p.m. Conversation and Remarks by David Barstow

David Barstow, Head of Investigative Reporting at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism and four-time Pulitzer-Award winning journalist will be the BGA’s special guest. He is probably best known for his explosive investigation into the myriad of ways the Trump family avoided and evaded paying taxes.  He and his fellow New York Times reporters reviewed tens of thousands of confidential financial documents to craft this Pulitzer Prize-winning story.
