Battling Corruption: Understanding Chicago’s Proposed Ethics Ordinance

January 1, 1970 @ 12:00 am

Join the Better Government Association for a conversation about the city’s newest ethics ordinance proposal featuring 43rd Ward Alderman, Michele Smith; Executive Director of Chicago’s Board of Ethics, Steve Berlin; and Director of Policy at the Better Government Association, Bryan Zarou.

The proposal expands on Chicago’s ethics ordinance for city employees, elected officials, and candidates for elected office. If adopted, the ordinance would make substantial additions to the city’s ethics laws, including a number of changes supported and recommended by the Better Government Association.

In this hour-long discussion, we’ll be discussing what’s included in the proposed ordinance, how the proposed changes to the city’s ethics ordinance would increase government transparency and accountability, and what this means for Chicagoans.
