SUMMARY:Reporting During COVID: A Zoom Conversation with the Better Government Association’s Reporters
DESCRIPTION:News reporting is essential. When the pandemic shut down business and public life\, the Better Government Association’s investigative reporters never stopped tracking down facts. \nJoin us on Zoom Aug. 12 to hear the inside scoop on how they kept reporting with limited access to officials and public spaces and fought for access to public records.  \nThe BGA turned out stories about failure to provide personal protective gear and other safety measures\, fact-checked official statements about the pandemic\, and went to court to protect the public’s right of access to Chicago City Council meetings. \nAlejandra Cancino\, senior investigator\, John Chase\, director of investigations\, and investigator Casey Toner will discuss the steps they took to gain sources’ trust while maintaining a safe social distance—challenges they still confront.  \nBGA President David Greising will moderate the conversation and audience questions. \nPlease join us to hear more about how the BGA team continues to shine a light on our government.  \nRegister now!

Registration is open to interested parties. \nIf the 12 states that comprise the Midwest were a country\, they would be the fifth-largest greenhouse gas emitting nation on the planet–yet the region lags behind the rest of the country in addressing the crisis. \nThe Midwest Climate Summit\, hosted by Washington University St. Louis\, is the result of extensive collaboration between over 20 leading Midwest higher education institutions\, local governments\, non-profits\, and private sector organizations seeking to catalyze a climate response.  \nThe Summit begins with an online kick-off Oct. 2 and continues with keynotes and workshops on Oct. 23\, Nov. 6 and Nov. 20.  \n
