Black Friday.
Cyber Monday.
Giving Tuesday.
Dec. 2 is Giving Tuesday, a national day to celebrate generosity and give big to the causes closest to your heart. Additionally, Donors Forum has set a goal of raising $12 million by Illinois nonprofits from 100,000 individual donors on this single day.
Here are three reasons why the Better Government Association deserves a spot on your Giving Tuesday agenda:
1. Illinois needs help. One study after another ranks Illinois at, or near, the bottom among the 50 states in fiscal and economic health and business climate. Illinois holds the title for the nation’s worst pension crisis and worst credit rating. Since 1973, Illinois residents have watched four governors go to prison. Need we say more?
2. Altruism is good for our health. When we give of our time and money, researchers find we benefit from a “helpers’ high” that some say makes us feel calmer and stronger with increased sense of self-worth.
3. Now is the time. The BGA just launched a $25,000 Challenge Grant. Gifts from new donors or those who have not donated in 24 months will be matched dollar for dollar. Maybe you’ve followed the BGA’s work for years but haven’t had a chance to donate. Or maybe you’re just finding out about the important work we’re doing to bring results, impact and reform to Illinois. There’s no better time than now to double your impact.
Be a part of something BIG this Giving Tuesday! Remember the organizations that give back to Illinois.
Your Watchdog,
Watson
